Guidelines for Birthdays at School While we do not allow birthday parties at school, students are allowed to bring a birthday snack or treat to share with the class. Great choices for birthday food treats include:
-Cookies
-Donuts
-Healthier options like fruit or popcorn
Less desirable treats for school include messy cupcakes, ice-cream, or anything that will take a long time to serve and eat. Parents must also send paper goods (napkins…) if needed.
We respectfully remind parents to not bring flowers, balloons, decorations, or gifts to school.
Students may pass out birthday party invitations at school if all students (or all boys or all girls) in the class are invited.
Many of our students have food allergies or restrictions, so we do ask that parents give the teachers advance notice if they intend to bring food items to be shared with the class.
We hope that by publishing these guidelines, we will be able to successfully meet the needs of the teachers to minimize classroom interruptions, while also allowing time for students to have fun and share with friends.
Participation in birthday treats, either sending or receiving, is totally optional and at the parent’s discretion. If you do not want your child to participate in any birthday acknowledgements with the class, please let me know.
Lunch Money You can visit the cafeteria or give money to your student to pay with either cash or check. The cafeteria staff will apply the funds provided directly into your students meal fund account. If paying by check, please make it payable to RRISD Food Service, include your driver’s license number, phone number and add your student’s name and school ID number to the memo field of the check.
Or you can pay online with a credit card, debit card or draft from your checking account via payment transaction service. A transaction fee of $1.95 per transaction will be applied. Visit MySchoolBucks.com online or download their app on your smart phone.
Transportation Please let me know by 12:00 p.m. if your child will be going home a different way than usual.

Report Cards The RRISD Primary Report Card is a standards-based continuum, meaning that progress is reported on the knowledge and skills your child is expected to master at each grade level. The continuum is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and ranges from Performance Level 1 to Performance Level 4. In order to keep you better informed about your child's progress, I am grading papers using the 1, 2, 3, 4 system that is found on the Parent Report Card Rubric. *Please note that not every classroom assignment will have the opportunity to display a score of a 4. However, there will be plenty of chances for me to observe "beyond grade level expectations" as we begin problem solving through the content areas and conversing in Reader's/Writer's Workshop conferences.
Level 1 – Exhibits skill/concept with direct guidance Level 2 – Exhibits skill/concept with minimal guidance Level 3 – Exhibits mastery of skill/concept Level 4 – Exhibits understanding beyond grade level expectation.
